Emiliano Sala has been missing for over two weeks after the plane he was travelling on disappeared over the English Channel. The 28-year-old had just completed a £15million move from Nantes to Cardiff, with the Argentine becoming the Bluebirds’ record signing. Sala had flown to France in order to say goodbye to his former team-mates and was returning to Wales when contact with the private plane was lost near the Channel Islands on January 21. A extensive search was undertaken for the striker, pilot David Ibbotson and the Piper Malibu N264DB, although the official operation was called off on January 24. Shipwreck hunter David Mearns then carried out a privately-funded search, with an underwater remotely-operated vehicle eventually discovering the wreckage of the plane on Sunday. Video footage shows the remains of the plane on the seabed while the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch have confirmed a body has been seen in the wreckage. Floral tributes have been left outside the Cardiff City stadium while scarves and shirts have also been laid around the ground. There were emotional scenes before and after Cardiff’s match against Bournemouth on Saturday – the first home game the Bluebirds have played since Sala’s disappearance. A mosaic in the colours of the Argentine flag were displayed during a minutes silence, while Bobby Reid held aloft a shirt with Sala’s picture on it after his first goal in the 2-0 win. The matchday programme bore Salah on its cover while fans chanted the player’s name and unveiled banners with messages for the signing they had never seen play. Sala’s family are still searching for answers about his fate, while players around Europe have been paying touching tribute with Wissam Ben Yedder and Abdoulaye Toure both revealing shirts with messages for the missing player. In our own tribute to the missing Cardiff striker, Express Sport has gathered together some of the best pictures from Sala’s career which give a glimpse of the joy with which he player his football.
