"Balut" is commonly eaten in the Philippines and other Southeast Asian countries. It is a hard boiled egg of a fertilized duck embryo. As such, controversy surrounds this exotic food. In the Philippines, balut is very commonly sold as street food. Even in the U.S. where I grew up, Filipino families can easily obtain balut in Asian markets. I used to eat balut every so often as a child and even enjoyed it, since we had it at home sometimes.
