Cette tour d’observation a été construite par les Génois en 1348, elle avait pour but de surveiller les flottes commerciales. Elle porte aussi le nom de CHRISTEA TURRIS (tour du christ). En 1453 le sultan MEHMET II fit du sommet de la tour un poste d’observation pour signaler les incendies.
