Assists by Trevor Zegras, Sam Carrick, + more (see recap below) GAME RECAP: The San Diego Gulls defeated the Ontario Reign, 4-3, in overtime of tonight's preseason contest at Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. Isac Lundestrom played hero, scoring the game-winning goal 59 seconds into the extra session. The Gulls pulled even with two late third-period goals from Lundestrom and Andrew Agozzino. Ontario exploded for three unanswered goals in the middle frame, led by rookie Tyler Madden's two scores. The Albany, NY native grabbed his second goal of the period with just under four minutes left. Sean Durzi converted a neutral zone turnover into an odd-man rush, feeding a streaking Madden as he moved into the slot. He quickly moved to the backhand, sliding the puck past San Diego netminder Lukas Dostal for his fourth goal of the preseason. Ontario took the lead with two quick goals earlier in the period. Madden gave Ontario the lead with his third goal of the preseason, finishing off an Arthur Kaliyev pass from behind the goal line. The Deerfield Beach, FL. native quickly snapped his shot over Dostal for the tiebreaking score. Kaliyev put the Reign on the board the prior shift, finding the top of the net from in tight. The 33rd overall selection of the 2019 NHL Draft grabbed his second goal of the exhibition schedule. Chase De Leo opened the scoring, deflecting home a point shot on the power play to put San Diego ahead. The La Mirada, CA native - who grew up attending games at Honda Center - stationed himself in front of Reign netminder J.F. Berube. Kodie Curran walked the point, waiting for a shooting lane to open before wristing his shot toward the net. De Leo deftly tipped the puck into the net for his first goal of the preseason. Trevor Zegras also picked up an assist, his third point of the exhibition schedule. The bad blood boiled over early between the two rivals. Keegan Kanzig and Jacob Doty dropped the gloves just 2:42 into regulation. Tonight is the first and only preseason meeting between the two teams. They'll meet for the first of 10 regular-season matchups on Wednesday, February 10. Just before puck drop, San Diego announced it signed veteran right wing Matt Lorito to a one-year AHL contract. Lorito, a Calder Cup champion with Grand Rapids, totaled 80-135=215 points and 115 PIM in 283 career AHL games with Toronto, Bridgeport, Grand Rapids Griffins and Albany Devils.
