Active Atom's video: Refurbishing German Tapping Machine

Micro-machine refurbish work continues on the German Tapping Machine as we now start reassembly of the two Levin Lathes and Levin Drill Press ACTIVE ATOM NEWS Shop Adventures Thumbnails are always blue. COVERING MICRO-MACHINING TO SMALL MILLING MACHINES One new color thumbnail will share detailed works like how to build a Levin Lathe Head Stock or How to reassemble a Barker Milling Machine all in great detail. This channel addition is due in part to demand for detailed processes and procedures from a few high-tech micro-machine companies (micro-machine friends) for miniature mills and lathes and from machinery re-builders for the medium sized Barker Mill similar to those that rebuild or operate a Wells-Index Mill or Bridgeport Milling Machine. SUPPORT MACHINES FOR OUR PRODUCT This week we continue refurbishing our German Tapping Machine, it is to tap the holes that our German Micro Drill press creates and both of these machines will be utilized in the making of our product. Patrick removes a pair of spindle bearings. Lance rejects a set of bearing nuts during polishing which is also the inspection of individual machine components on the main tapping machine spindle. Patrick must now machine and make on our larger Machine Shop Lathe a pair of specialized bearing nuts with a specialized metric thread pitch .05mm on 14mm bore. Patrick machines 1018 Steel and realizes he must grind a tool bit or just purchase a new tool bit to make the threads and get them back to final reassembly of the German tapping machine and wrap this project up with a lucky score by Patrick who found some original vintage new old stock FAG bearings for this machine. Lance delivers to the final assembly area the Workshop from the machine shop area the main German Tapping machine mounted on a cast metal base that is then mounted on a maple wood top with carry groves complete with the 3 phase motor, the controller VFD speed regulator. It is now it is up to Patrick to wire and install the bearings, the pair of NEW bearing nuts he is machining and the idler pulley’s, then Patrick needs to fuse a belt to power this machine so that the testing for reliability and repeatability wear and heat buildup observation can start. SHOP ADVENTURES BLUE COLOR The Main Machines that will begin to make our product get attention. We have begun the reassembly of our Levin Instrument Lathes and a Levin Drill Press and we will share some of the assembly on Shop Adventures so we keep it fun and enjoyable. Just not in the fine details of how we are going to be assembling the machines head stocks step by step. Because we are talking about holding tolerances of 50 millionths of an inch, this work will take additional video run time to share in fine detail and for this reason this type of sharing in the New Color for this Channel was required.
