@Levin Lathe Installations & Tapping Machine Update
Levin Lathes get mounted and a German Tapping Machine update. Levin micro drill update, educational videos update and a shout out to our Facebook group YouTube Machinists, thank you subscribers AWARD WINNING PHOTO WINNER Here is the link to our winning Facebook group YouTube Machinists prize for best uploaded picture of the week. Our reward is stickers from fellow YouTube creators and our winning picture placed atop the group banner for one week, we are so famous now (not). Here is the actual Instagram link: https://www.instagram.com/p/BscmTTRnWaC Hey since you are over there, please follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/active_atom Come see our latest photos of precision machines, watchmaker machines, tools, parts, tiny items and other fine images shot in high quality by Patrick and uploaded regularly. LEVIN LATHE BASE INSTALLATION COMPLETED Drilling 4 holes in each of two maple table tops, 2 holes for the Levin motor mount and 2 holes for the Levin Lathe machine bed chip tray are now finally completed. We took ergonomics to a whole new level for us in just one area, precise location placement. Patrick shares that in an upcoming Shop Adventure video, he will share the German Tapping machine reassembly and the actual testing but in addition to the reassembly of this fine machine, the tap chuck needs some work. An Albrecht chuck, the second smallest chuck the company makes needs to be rebuilt and Patrick has never rebuilt an Albrecht chuck so stay tuned. Patrick reminds us that while he has plenty of the Albrecht chucks in many sizes, he wants to save all new old stock inventory and only use when necessary. So he wants to save this lightly used chuck since it is still in perfect functional condition. As you might not be aware, an Albrecht chuck is (in our opinion) the worlds best precision production speed chuck made and for this, they are really expensive. Justifying the total rebuild of the chuck which still looks cosmetically good to share a bit that the camera cannot show as well. Once the rebuild of the chuck and the reassembly of the tapping machine are completed, he will then demonstrate how the machine taps a drilled hole and in particular, the engaging and disengaging of the tap clutch system in work which is fascinating to watch. Lance shares maple table top types, coated and non coated tops, and their care and continual maintenance practices for them. Lance shares that on the Levin Lathe accessories, we are down to just one last attachment being the micro drill accessory. This last one is to be disassembled, cleaned, inspected, polished, gets new bearings and replacement parts that are worn. And also gets oiled and reassembled, tested and placed back into service. EDUCATIONAL LEVEL CONTENT VIDEOS Educational videos, step-by-step how to do things the way we do them, shared in a mini series format of videos not yet named or even assigned a thumbnail color but we know the first 4 video series will go something like this: 1) How to replace the spindle bearings in a Levin Lathe or micro drill 4 or 5 part mini series 2) How to reassemble a Barker Milling machine from start to finish 3) How to use a lapping table, compounds and solutions to lap micro-machined watchmaker and instrument sized parts. 4) How micro-machine drills work, their types, their sizes, even how to make your own micro-drill bits. There will be plenty more coming, these are just a start and the order and timing of their release will vary as they are produced then shared randomly as completed but know this each educational video will lightly not in detail be shared in the weekly series Shop Adventures as well so everyone can see all of or in part the complexity of our fine micro-machining world from our point of view. Shop Adventures is a Weekly YouTube Series filmed at a home mostly converted into a full machining and finishing operation located in a small Mojave Desert California Town named Yucca Valley. This series follows the adventures of two childhood friends as they rebuild vintage precision micro-machines and tools that will allow them the ability to make their own designed product into a reality but only after they stopped doing work for others on these same machines, with these same precision tools for the past several decades.
