@Furry Match Game! - Flappy New Year 2021 - Hours 7-8
Flappy New Year is an annual, livestream charity event held over the New Years holiday. The purpose and main idea of the event is to celebrate the coming of the New Year with everyone in the whole world, while also raising money for a charity of our choosing to start the year off on a great note! Flappy New Year will always happen on the New Year, starting with the very first time zone (January 1st, LINT) and ending on the last time zone (January 1st, AoE): this ends up being a 26-hour long event! The event first originated when a group of friends were trying to plan for a New Year’s party. The plan originally was to just have a get-together and hang out to celebrate their specific New Year, but then the idea began to develop further. Talk of potentially making it a livestream event would be entertaining, but in order to do that would require a 26-hour livestream if they were to capture every timezones’ New Year. Then, we thought, if the livestream were to happen, why not make it into a fund-raising event for a charity? Thus, the creation of Flappy New Year! With the help, collaboration, and shared goals between a group of friends, everyone in the world is able to make a difference in thousands of people’s lives in this annual event! As you watch all the different panels take place, remember that the goal of starting the New Year by helping someone smile is the number one goal. We hope that you enjoy your time during the event, and we hope to be able to see you at the next Flappy New Year! ----------- The COVID-19 pandemic is a real threat and has dramatically impacted the production of Flappy New Year. We are taking measures and following all local regulations to stay safe. This is a private event with a set number of people in a private event space. We are all wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and minimizing contact when in public. We are sanitizing surfaces, hands, and shared objects often. We understand that any sort of in-person gathering will carry some amount of risk; it is impossible for there to be zero risk. Those of us present in-person have all discussed and accepted this risk. We’ve trusted each other to be safe leading up to the event, to stay safe during the event, and to be responsible after the event. We have all chosen to be here because we want to raise money for Give Kids The World. Everyone present in-person has been tested at least once within the weeks leading up to the event. We’ve all been aggressively minimizing our contact with others for at least two weeks leading up to the event, including skipping or dramatically shortening our family holiday gatherings. Everyone present drove here; nobody flew. We will all be minimizing our contact with others after the event, fully quarantining if and where necessary. The pandemic has made planning this event - quite frankly - incredibly difficult. We had to make several drastic changes to our plans multiple times. Our original hope was to have 30-40 people here. We now have 9. We had to change plans for the location multiple times, even as recently as two weeks ago. Individuals that were planning to be here today had to back out last minute due to potential COVID exposure. We had to scrap events we’d been planning for months due to individuals not being able to come or things simply not working with a smaller number of people. While it’s been hard, it’s been fun. But throughout it all, we have kept safety and managing risk as our top priority. We hope that you are also doing what you can to stay safe in your area.
