Advance Rehab Centre's video: ARC s Compassionate Program - Kit is ready for take off

Kit was visiting Sydney from Borneo - to support her daughter with her newborn baby. Sadly, within days of arriving, Kit had a stroke requiring hospitalisation. Her family were faced with medical bills as Kit was an overseas resident and therefore, under far from ideal circumstances, they took Kit home until she was able to fly to Jakarta. Without travel insurance, Medicare or funds to cover essential rehab, ARC stepped in to provide a compassionate program of intensive therapy consisting of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology and therapy assistant intervention. We first met Kit 9 days after her stroke, when she required maximum assistance of 2 people for all care and standing activities, as well as full hoist transfers. The primary goal of our burst of therapy was for Kit to be able to board an international flight and travel home (to a rehabilitation hospital) in relative safety and comfort. In rehabilitation, especially within the community setting, we are often faced with challenging situations. Our therapists do their very best with the resources available to support and educate clients and their families to make life just that little bit easier. We are proud to say that after 11 intense days, Kit has achieved her goal to board the plane. Enormous thanks go out to the ARC team who pulled together to help get Kit home.
