Road to London: Day 51 Location: Copenhagen Experience: Visiting Little Mermaid Statue, Christiansborg Palace, Amalienborg Palace We had our breakfast today & left our hotel with a bucket list of things to do in Copenhagen. We first visited The Little Mermaid Statue, an iconic tourist attraction in Copenhagen. The Little Mermaid statue was unveiled in 1913. This bronze statue was a gift from the Danish brewer Carl Jacobsen to the City of Copenhagen. A sculptor named Edvard Eriksen was commissioned to create the bronze sculpture of The Little Mermaid, after the brewer fell in love with the mermaid character in a ballet performance at Royal Danish Theatre. The Little Mermaid statue is so iconic, that it has been subject to vandalism multiple times, but the statue has been restored every time. After visiting the iconic Little Mermaid Statue, we then headed to Christiansborg Palace, a majestic residence home to the Danish Parliament. We then visited the Amalienborg Palace to witness the change of guards.
