Airborne Lemming's video: Editors - Papillon live at Pinkpop 16th June 2023 3FM Broadcast

14 years old and it's still a perfect way to end a set. Editors were booked to play two dates at a festival just before the covid pandemic really took hold. The first night would be a standard gig, with the second one being open to anything they fancied trying. Their decision was to create a rave-like atmosphere using Editors' songs, and for that they enlisted the help of one Blanck Mass. Of course, the show got nuked due to lockdowns and such, but I don't believe the genesis of that idea has ever fully receded. To me, Papillon at Pinkpop sounds exactly like the kind of thing they had in mind when they first came up with the idea of making Editors more danceable. I mean, the source material is as fir for purpose as you can get, but I'll always wonder which other tracks they would have selected for the revamp and how they would have sounded. Maybe one day...
