I’ve read and watched a lot of articles and videos about spirit airlines, I wanted to see for myself, if they were really that bad, living in Europe which is home to many ultra low cost airlines, could they be worse than Ryanair or Wizz air ? So taking my opportunity while I was staying in Boston I booked a day trip with spirit, airlines to Fort Lauderdale. The flights cost $26 I also added on short cut boarding and I also selected my seat, 6F for the flight. Spirit like many European low cost airlines, charges for everything, checked baggage, printing boarding passes at the airport, a carrying bag into the cabin all costs extra along with food and drinks on board, nothing new for me, having flown with Ryanair and easyJet many times this is all pretty standard in Europe these days. The boarding process is very simple, they board in zone numbers 1-4, group 1 is for people that need special assistance, families and I am assuming people whom paid for carry on baggage, I was in zone 2 so boarded relatively quickly. Onboard the bright yellow aircraft, the first 2 rows of seats are called big front seats and these are laid out in 2 - 2 configuration, the rest of the aircraft features black slimline leather seats in a 3-3 layout, this A320NEO has a total of 182 seats, the leg room is 29” again this is standard for all low cost airlines over in Europe. I’m only 5ft8 so I can fit comfortably in the seats. It is tight for taller people tho, the person sat next to me had his legs right up against the seat in front, If anyone has ever flown with jet2, I found the seats to be very similar in design to the ones found of their aircraft, firm but not uncomfortable for the 3 hour flight. As I mentioned previously on board snacks and drinks are paid for, they have an ok selection, it is a bit on the expensive side, I didn’t purchase anything on this flight as I ate in the airport prior to the flight. Very surprisingly, the crew are not pushing for sales like on jet2 or Ryanair, they came through the cabin just once with the snacks and drinks. I was expecting it to be a sales pitch like on some European airlines. The aircraft are also equipped with wifi, tho my particular aircraft today, didn’t feature wifi as it was out of service, however it was $7.99 for this leg if It was available The crew were funny, friendly and professional. Even making us partake in yoga to pass the time which i thought was cool. Maybe I got lucky on this flight; but i cannot see why spirit are hated by many, yes if things go wrong it could be a whole different story. But for me, I enjoyed my flight with spirit, they are no different to easyJet, Ryanair or wizz air in Europe. I would fly with them again.
