In an unusual Easter tradition, residents in San Antero, Colombia turn out to fawn over donkeys dressed from head to hoof in costumes ranging from popstars to popes. Full Story: They are commonly known as beasts of burden, but in Colombia's Caribbean town of San Antero, donkeys are kings for a day on Easter Sunday as residents celebrated the region's annual Donkey Festival. A Halloween for donkeys, proud owners dressed up their animals as leading public figures such as Venezuela's Acting President Nicolas Maduro and Colombian footballer Radamel Falcao Garcia as they showed them off to townsfolk. The donkey with the best costume is crowned king of ceremonies. This year's festival conclave gave the award to Latin America's first donkey pontiff, Pope Francis. Originally it was a religious event where a doll representing Judas Iscariot was carried on a donkey through the town and later burned.
