Alliance's video: Stanford Chinese Dance Hipnotized 2023

Founded in 2006, Stanford Chinese Dance provides Stanford students with the opportunity to experience Chinese dance and culture. We welcome dancers of all experience levels and perform a variety of classical and contemporary pieces. With tonight’s qipao dance, we pay homage to Cantopop and its remarkable experimentation with different styles over the decades. We present a fan dance set to a classic song by Anita Mui that draws from traditional Cantonese opera, followed by a tango fusion set to thrilling music by Leo Ku. Through these two pieces, we tell the story of two more-than-friends separated by the vagaries of fate — inspired by the plot of “Twin Bracelets”, a 1990 Hong Kong movie by a feminist Taiwanese director.
