Whilst we were staying in Shanghai for a couple of months, we really wanted to explore more of China. Suzhou and Tongli Water Town can both be reached by fast train from Shanghai, which makes them great day trips from Shanghai, although maybe not both in the same day! Suzhou is known for its incredible classical Chinese gardens but has so much more to offer. Tongli Water Town is a beautiful ancient town near Suzhou, where you can explore the historic streets, canals, bridges, residences, gardens and more.
