Amanda Bess's video: 40 under quilt pushed to 18 : Scott s Gap Loop Trail: Clothing for cold weather

As a result of this fun experiment, I do not recommend using the 40° under quilt at 18°. It was cold and uncomfortable (but not intolerable). Would be much better off if I had warmer clothes and insulated booties for my feet. At 27° I was fairly warm. Not toasty warm the way I like it. But could definitely get a good night sleep. The ARGON sock really works wonders. Its wind proof (can't say so for myself as i haven't used it in windy comditions), water resistant, plus it protects your UQ! Will be starting the Appalachian Trail in a tent and maybe switch to a hammock later.
