Yes the humble little pesky mosquito is responsible for more human deaths per year than any other creature on earth. Mosquitos bite billions of people annually, and are thought to infect as many as 700 million humans every year with life threatening diseases such as malaria and Yellow fever. According to the World Health Organization, at least 1 million people lose their lives each and every year as a direct result of a mosquito bite – with sub-Saharan Africa experiencing the most fatalities. Interestingly, it is in fact only female mosquitos that bite humans and consume their blood -- male mosquitos prefer to eat nectar and other forms of sugar. … they do say we learn something every day.
