American Ballet Theatre's video: VISCERAL HARMONIES ABT Studio Company

In the summer of 2020 – with traditional performance and training methods paralyzed by the pandemic – students from across the country gathered in an online collaboration to create music. For one week, these young artists captured recordings from their daily lives and improvised together to generate content for a grand composition. The musicians’ collective composition inspired choreographer Amy Hall Garner and the dancers of American Ballet Theatre Studio Company. VISCERAL HARMONIES was choreographed by Amy Hall Garner and rehearsed over Zoom, with ABT Studio Company dancers filming their movements from their home studios or outdoor locations in the United States, South Korea, and the Philippines. The work is set to music composed by Steven Hackman and students from the Collective Conservatory. The composition was performed and recorded remotely by 100 students from the Peabody Institute’s “Tuned In” program and Harmony Project of Los Angeles, Tulsa, and Phoenix. Student musicians performing with The Collective Conservatory, under founder and artistic director Daniel Trahey, were recruited from across the country.
