American Ballet Theatre's video: BLACK RITUAL OBEAH by Agnes de Mille Celebrating the Unnamed Dancers of the 1940 Production

In 1940, during American Ballet Theatre’s inaugural season, the ballet BLACK RITUAL (OBEAH) by Agnes de Mille made its World Premiere. The work was performed by 16 Black and Brown dancers; none of whom were named in the performance’s program. Today, in honor of the first day of Black History Month, we remember, we recognize, and we honor these dancers and their indelible contributions to our history and our art form.
