American Explorer🥕🐴's video: Brasstown Bald the Highest Point in Georgia: A Video Montage

This is a pictorial and video montage from a recent visit to Georgia's highest mountain, Brasstown Bald. It rises 4,784 feet above sea level and is located on the border between Towns and Union counties in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. It features a gift shop, museum, an observation deck with signs showing points of interest, and several hiking trails. The tower at the observation deck is a fire tower. The last time I heard a ranger talk about whether or not it was still used for fire watch was in the 1990's, and she said it was only used occasionally. I don't know about now, but my guess is it's no longer used for fire watch at all. Due to its elevation, the temperatures are considerably cooler than nearby towns below. The record high temperature in the summer is only 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The record low is -27 degrees Fahrenheit. Other than Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee can be seen from here. On a clear day, Atlanta and Clingman's Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park can also be seen. Brasstown Bald is also an excellent place to see the night sky. Whether or not you are interested in astronomy, it's a beautiful sight nonetheless as there are no lights at night either in the parking lot or at the top.
