American Revolution's video: Hitler s Great Offensive in Eastern Front Why He Lost Stalingrad 1942 - 43

The Battle of Stalingrad was a military campaign fought by the Russian forces and those of Nazi Germany and it's axis allies during World War II in 1942 and 1943. This ruthless battle was a part of Operation Barbarossa which was an invasion of Soviet Union in the eastern front started on 22 June 1941. Adolf Hitler and the Wehrmacht planned to take control of Stalingrad city (Volgograd) to prevent the Joseph Stalin's oil supply from southern Russia. With the beginning of intense air raid by the German "Luftwaffe" air force, the 6th army and elements of 4th Panzer army commanded by General Friedrich Paulus began their assault at Stalingrad city on August 23, 1942. The Russians under the command of Vasily Chuikov continued suffer heavy losses. By mid November, The German forces pushed soviet defenders west bank of the Volga river. In late November, The Soviet supreme military commander Georgy Zhukov and Aleksandr Vasilevsky organized russian troops in mountains to the north and west of the city. From there the soviets launched a counter attack againt Nazi german forces in Stalingrad that famously known as Operation Uranus. They trapped the German 6th army. In mid december 1942, German Commander Erich von Manstein launched Operation winter storm involving 4th Panzer army to rescue Paulus's the 6th army, but failed to break the soviet encirclement. The Soviet Red army resumed their offensive to defeat the trapped 6th army that also know as Operation Saturn. By February 1943, The Stalin's soviet army had retaken Stalingrad and captured Paulus and one hundred German soldiers. The German defeat in Stalingrad was the first major failure of Hitler that was also the major turning point of the WW2.
