The French Revolution - The Rise of Napoleon Bonaparte | History Animation. The First French revolution was an event of modern european history, began on 1789 and ended in 1799 with the rise of first consul Napoleon Bonaparte. The revolution dissolved the absolute monarchy and the poor economic policies of King Louis XVI, who met his death by guillotine, as did his wife Marie Antoinette. Others european powers like Prussia, Austrian, Russia and Britain considered the french revolution as threat that leads to the french revolutionary wars in 1792. The French Republic was established in September, 1792. The republic faced several revolts. To deal with this the Directory took power in 1795. In 1799, the Directory was replace by the Consulate due to economic collapse and internal divisions. In the Revolutionary wars, Napoleon was a familiar figure in France. With his military genius he brought victory for the French republic against the first coalition. Napoleon drove the British and Coalition forces out of Toulon harbor in 1793. He also dealt with the Royalist rebels in Paris. Napoleon defeated the Austrian forces in Italy. He was victorious in many battles like battle of Lodi 1796, battle of Rivoli 1797, Battle of Pyramid 1798 and Battle of Marengo 1800.
