Results of the Greek minority party in the Albanian parliamentary elections after the fall of communism (1991-2017). Immediately after the fall of Enver Hoxha's tyrannical regime in Albania, the people of Northern Epirus managed to organize their own political voice of representation. On February 11, 1991, the "Democratic Union of National Greek Minority" DEEM OMONIA was founded. The choice of the name "Omonia" is based on the name of a previous organization that had been formed in Northern Epirus in 1918. The seat of Omonia was and remains in Ag.Saranda due to many factors, but mainly due to the majority of the Greek population living in the wider area. Committees were formed immediately, the Greeks rallied and so we have the participation of OMONIA in the first free elections, where the people of Northern Epirus participated en masse and elected 5 deputies (3 deputies in the first round 31/3/1991 and 2 in the second round 7/4/1991).OMONIA is emerging as the third largest political force in the Albanian Parliament in this election, which has caused concern and difficulty among Albanians. In order to prevent future developments, favorable to the Greeks, the Albanian Parliament passed a law, a few months later in July 1991, according to which it prohibited the establishment of religious, national or local parties. The clear goal is to silence the voice of the people of Northern Epirus. In February 1992, OMONIA's participation in the upcoming elections was officially banned. As a sign of protest, the 5 Greek MPs are leaving the debate in the Parliament and immediately we have a series of attacks against the Greeks and the destruction of the organization's offices in Agioi Saranda. The people of Northern Epirus did not give up and established the KEAD (Human Rights Union Party) as an alternative representation, which seemed to be aimed at defending the rights of all minorities in Albania. In essence, however, the KEAD was "invented" to be the voice of OMONIA and the Northern Epirotes in the Albanian Parliament, as any other representation was prohibited. The KEAD elects 2 Greek MPs in the 1992 elections.ELECTIONS 1992: The minority KEAD (Union Party of Human Rights) receives 48,923 votes, receiving 2.9% of the vote and electing 2 deputies. ELECTIONS 1996: The KEAD receives 66,529 votes, receiving 4.04% of the votes and elects 3 deputies. ELECTIONS 1997: The KEAD receives 37,191 votes receiving 2.71% of the votes and elects 4 deputies ELECTIONS 2001: KEAD receives 34,897 votes receiving 2.6% of the votes and elects 3 MPs ELECTIONS 2005: KEAD receives 56,403 votes receiving 4.13% of the votes and elects 2 MPs ELECTIONS 2009: KEAD receives 18,078 votes and elects 1 MP ELECTIONS 2013: KEAD receives 14,722 votes and elects 1 MP ELECTIONS 2017: KEAD for the first time does not go down independently and its president cooperates with Basha's party and is elected in the peripheral region
