World History Encyclopedia's video: How the Roman Republic became the Roman Empire

Narrated by Josh, this video takes you on the journey of how the Roman Republic became the Roman Empire. The transition from the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire begins with the Punic Wars which were multiple battles between Carthage and Rome, which Rome were eventually victorious. As Julius Caesar, the dictator of the Roman Republic started to get too powerful he was assassinated and the power went to his nephew, Octavian, Octavian worked with Mark Antony to enact revenge against those who killed Julius Caesar, but they ended up turning on each other. Antony allied himself with Cleopatra VII and they had a large army which lost against Rome at the Battle of Actium led by Octavian. After this success Octavian was given the title Augustus, and ten years later he became the first Emperor of Rome.
