@“Capital Creates Change” Kiribati - Wall Street Journal for Morgan Stanley
360 Virtual Reality Directed by Andrew Schwartz for WSJ Custom Studios First Solar, a manufacturer of innovative photovoltaic modules and global solar power plant developer, is scheduled to complete the world’s first utility-scale solar project on tribal lands by the end of this year. The plant sits on 2,000 acres of the Moapa River Indian Reservation. The 250-megawatt facility will generate enough electricity to power about 100,000 homes. And it represents new hope for the Moapa Band of Paiutes, who total about 300 members, to use their sun-drenched desert lands to provide a diversified revenue stream for the tribe and help promote clean, renewable energy. The project brings millions of dollars in benefits to the Moapa Band of Paiutes, creates operations and construction jobs, and supports programs such as the Paiute language classes to help the band preserve its culture.
