The aim is to shoo away the demons with dried soy beans (a symbol of good luck) to prevent bad luck and reignite good luck back into your life. This usually happens on February 3rd but for the first time since 1897, Setsubun falls on February 2nd. This date is changing of seasons from winter to spring in the old Japanese lunar calendar.
