Curry is a phenomenon that swept the hearts of the local Japanese people. Introduced in the 1800's (Meiji era) by the British that had a colony over in India at the time, the generic curry spice mix slowly over time became a staple in Japanese cuisine. Tumeric, Coriander seeds, Chilli powder, Cumin are the ingredients neatly packed into one kit of spice goodness. Of course, the Japanese being the way that they are always putting their creative genius into it, curry in Japan always comes a tad sweet in many restaurants.
