Andy Summers's video: Stop calling your speakers atmos speakers

@Stop calling your speakers atmos speakers
Please stop calling your overheads "Atmos speakers". For your and the rest pubic information Overhead surrounds on ceilings dates back to 1960's Cinerama used Overhead surrounds and a speaker fitted against or withing the ceiling is an Overhead Surround. It sort phased out around early 1970 with Cinerama at local Odeon screen 1, Bournemouth which was maybe the last original Cinerama screen in the UK and thou the Overhead surround was last in use around early 1998 and Odeon used some mini-hi-fi speakers in the corners of the auditorium, maybe the speakers was damaged and couldn't be asked to go up into the catwalk and repair them? 1999, x16 JBL 8330 mkI was fitted around the auditorium but to this day home to the pigeons now, the existing Cinerama Overhead Surrounds are still intact in the ceiling. Here is a picture of Odeon screen 1 note x6 squares on the ceiling and lower down around the curved ceiling is the JBL 8330 mkI and that is some Overhead Surround history. Now please stop calling Dolby labs speakers Atmos speakers that is just a marketing name to get fools calling there Overhead Atmos. Oh I guess they don't make dtsx speakers or auro3d speakers then lol. 1989 I worked as protectionist at UCI cinemas, UCI tower park, poole a new multiplex 10 screen and what was diffrent about it, it had Overhead Surrounds in all ten screens. Vic V 35mm, with Dolby Stereo CP55 with SRA5 Spectrail Recording and EV speakers for screen LCR and Overhead Surrounds and usually its common to place the surround speakers on the sidewall and back wall of any cinema at that time. The Overhead surrounds part of an experiment. Here is a picture of one of the two larger screens 5 and 6 hard to tell with the picture of the smaller screens 1 - 4 and 7 - 10 as they are all designed the same. Note the Overhead Surrounds on the ceiling and same spacing as to what they are today to market "Atmos". Most of the public and yourself have no idea of the Overhead Surround history, well now you know. (picture showing a hallway with screen 4, note the ceiling square that used to be one of x6 of the Overhead surrounds in screen 2) Smaller picture shows Odoen screen 2 that was below screen 1 Cinerama. Screen 2 had it's surround speakers arranged as sidewall back wall and some x6 within the ceiling. Screen 2 was closed down 1989 and chopped up into shoe-box auditoriums cos the money was going to someone's head at Odeon thinking they needed more screens. Some of the overhead surrounds can still be located in the downstairs screens with wood placed over where the Overhead surround once was. The downstairs screens are now home to the pigeons. ---------------------- They ain't called atmos speakers. Does auro3d make speakers that say auro3d speakers on a box, No it doesn't. Does dts makes speakers that says dtsx speakers for use only with dtsx only, No they do not. As ex projectionist retired that worked at an actual cinema that used experiential overhead surround, at UCI tower park, UK, 1989, and those speakers in the auditoriums was EV cinema PA speakers. Its just a pet hate for me that dolby labs have managed to brainwash people into calling their speakers atmos speakers. atmos is an encode/decode sound delivery format. The overhead surrounds at UCI wasn't called dolby overhead surrounds, even thou it was a dolby stereo installation or, in selected theatrs/cinemas. I even call special type of my overhead surrounds where I use three VOG channels or I call them DOG dolby overhead god, I'm taking the p lisss out of dolby labs. They are JBL 8330A x9 on my ceiling. Anyway here is a video showing some past overhead surround facts that I'm sure dolby labs forgot about.
