At the heart of this interactive device is a vintage Soviet clipping diode and Germanium transistors which impart a special warmth and compression, unlike modern components. The Range knob provides a wide array of fuzz gain while the tone can be altered with the Filter toggle and corresponding Calibrate knob, which sweeps through an impressive range of EQ slopes. A big part of the Sputnik’s fame was due to the Drift mode, which has been included in all its glory with a separate soft footswitch that can be momentary or latching. The Drift’s level of fuzz corruption and self-oscillation are dialed in with the Scan control, which can offer gated fuzz or squealing tone generator sounds that combat your guitar’s signal in musical and not-so-musical ways.
