Lachlan (played by Thomas) has made Emmerdale villagers’ lives hell on the ITV soap this year, as the twisted teenager completely lost it after he murdered his mother Chrissie White (Louise Marwood) and grandfather Lawrence (John Bowe) in a horrific car crash. The character then felt pushed to kill his best friend Gerry Roberts (Shaun Thomas) when he found out his secret. Lachlan proceeded to kill one more person in conman Paul Tozer, who was marauding as Gerry’s uncle Terry, but it all caught up with him when Sam Dingle (Jame Hooton) discovered he had his body in the back of his car. Following harrowing scenes with his girlfriend Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper), Lachlan was finally caught by the police, and tonight saw his aunt Rebecca White (Emily Head) finally rescued and recovering in hospital. The episode ended with the police telling Lachlan he was going away “for a very very long time”, and he was being funny by trying to bargain for less time on his sentence, but no one was expecting it to be the last they saw of the character. Seemingly confirming the opposite, Emmerdale’s official Twitter shared actor Thomas’s goodbye to his fans. He shared: “So, after all this time, after everything Lachlan has done, it's all finally caught up with him. "For the last four-and-a-half years, I've kinda grown up here. That's the way I see it. “I’ve figured it out — I've spent a quarter of my life here, which is a long time…” the actor continued. “The fanbase has been amazing. They've shown me support." Despite tonight’s instalment being the last viewers will see of Lachlan for a while, the actor was keen to assure fans he wouldn’t say no to a return storyline. Thomas asked: ”Will he be back? I don't know. You'll have to ask the soap gods about that. “I mean, he's not dying. He's going to prison. There could be a trial. You know, we don't know? “We'll have to see!" the star added with a grin. Tonight's episode saw Rebecca struggling to adjust to the real world again, and she couldn’t hide her worries about her captor Mrs Sykes. Rebecca recalled what the nurse had said to her before dropping her off in the middle of the road, as the nurse said: “I’d no idea who he was or what he’d done, I swear. You can’t tell the police, you have to promise.” Taking to Twitter, fans shared their thoughts over the storyline’s next twist. “I hope the police find Mrs Sykes @emmerdale @emily_head,” one person wrote.
