They have a high thermic effect which means the energy needed for absorbing, digesting and disposing of the nutrients all burns calories. The 1st food with a high thermic effect is legumes like lentils and chickpeas. Research has shown, and I’ve included the study links below, people who ate legume rich foods for 8 weeks increased their metabolism and lost more weight than the group that didn’t. The 2nd food is shellfish because they contain a good amount of iron, zinc and selenium which are needed for your thyroid to act properly which is important because it’s what regulates your metabolism. The 3rd food is chili peppers which contains a chemical called capsaicin which was shown in numerous studies to help your body burn an extra 50 calories a day. At the end of the month that adds up to 1,500 calories. The next food is protein rich foods like fish, lean meats, nuts and seeds. Protein rich foods have been shown in studies to increase your metabolic rate by 15 to 30%. Protein also helps your body build and maintain muscle which reduces drops in your metabolism.
