The info was gathered from interviews or surveys taken of people who made it to age 100 or more, other wise known as centenarians. Most of them came from blue zones. They are the regions identified as having the most people aged 100 or over in the world. Eating fruit and vegetables every day. People who live in blue zones get a large part of their diet from plants. People over 100 years old say they eat a lot of squash, greens, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, yams, papaya, melons, bananas and avocado. The 4th thing done everyday is physical activity. Most of the centenarians move around and aren’t couch potatoes. Research has shown that 20 to 30 minutes of physical activity every day reduces the risk of dying by 28 percent. And coming in at number three is having faith in their religion and praying. A study in 2018 found that people aged 90 to 101 had a very strong connection to their religion. Researchers stated that a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves helps older people to thrive. The number 2 thing is being social. Humans are social creatures and need to interact with others. research has shown those who got out their homes the most lived the longest. Another study found people older than 90 maintained close ties to their family and friends which helps to provide emotional support. Getting out regularly keeps the brain active and typically increases physical activity. And the number one thing that 100 year olds do everyday is staying positive. A study found that most people aged between 95 and 107 years old tended to have a positive attitude and a sense of humor. They had a combination of grit, toughness and were optimistic allowing them to handle life’s challenges better than others.
