The above recital is a part of the whole night concert "Yamini" by the doyens of Indian classical music, organized by SPIC MACAY Odisha Chapter and held at the Institute of Physics on 28th October, 2017. The overnight concert featured Dr. L Subramaniam (Carnatic Violin), Vidushi Geeta Chandran (Bharatanatyam), Ustad Nishat Khan (Sitar), Vidushi Manjusha Patil Kulkarni (Hindustani Vocal) and Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar (Dhrupad). About the artists: One of India’s finest musicians, the virtuoso sitar player Nishat Khan has been dazzling audiences globally with his provocative expression and spellbinding technical mastery. He hails from one of the most famous music families in the North Indian classical tradition that extends back for seven generations. The son and disciple of Ustad Imrat Khan, Nishat stands at the threshold of the future of sitar and Indian music with his uniquely invigorating, contemporary approach. He draws on his own musical heritage as well as engages other genres as diverse as Western classical music, jazz, Flamenco and Gregorian chant. He has worked with other major performers and composers such as John McLaughlin, Philip Glass, Paco Peña, Evelyn Glennie. Pandit Sanjay Adhikary is one of the finest Tabla artists of today's generation. He was born in a musical family with an illustrious lineage of musicians of high esteem and knowledge, and grew up in a musical atmosphere in North Kolkata. He learnt from Pandit Ashish Roychowdhury, Pandit Amiyo Mukherjee and Pandit Swapan Siva. He took advanced lessons form the maestro of Benaras Gharana, Pandit Kumar Bose. He has accompanied many famous musicians like Vidushi Girija Devi, Pandit Deepak Chowdhury, Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Vidushi Ashwini Bhide Deshpande, Vidushi Padma Talwalkar, Vidushi Aarti Ankalikar-Tikekar to name a few. He is currently attached with the ITC Sangeet Research Academy as an Accompanist Musician and has been touring the whole country as well as abroad for the past two decades.
