@"Não uso skimmer porque o Calvetti não usa e tá tudo bem"... Quando é que ele vai falar a verdade?
Agora todo mundo fala "não precisa de skimmer pois o Calvetti não usa" se ele pular da ponte voce vai junto também? Maintaining a healthy saltwater aquarium cannot be done without a quality protein skimmer. Protein SkimmerThe key to having a healthy, flourishing saltwater aquarium is maintaining good water quality in your tank. Without clean water your marine ecosystem will suffer and will not be able to survive. A healthy aquarium is free of toxins such as ammonia and nitrite and in order to remove these harmful substances it is essential to have a quality protein skimmer. Why Do I Need a Protein Skimmer? In any marine aquarium waste products from fish, plants, and invertebrates are present in the water and these wastes produce toxic materials such as ammonia and nitrite. Through a natural process known as the nitrogen cycle these toxins are converted to nitrate which, in low concentration, is not harmful to fish or invertebrates. However, corals cannot tolerate even low levels of nitrate and therefore, the substance must be removed to ensure a healthy aquarium. This is where protein skimmers come in to play. What is a Protein Skimmer and What Does It Do? A protein skimmer is a device that filters water in an aquarium and removes the waste products that are present before they break down into harmful substances. Protein skimmers ensure that the water in your tank is clean and nitrate free, enabling your corals to be as healthy and vibrant as possible. In addition, protein skimmers help prevent the buildup of algae and bacteria which also helps maintain clean tank water. Clean and clear water allows more light to reach your corals which is essential for good coral health and growth as many corals rely on photosynthesis to survive. When the water in your aquarium is clean it also minimizes the amount of problems you run into with your tank because your filters and other parts will be able to operate more effectively. If you want to make sure that your aquarium is as beautiful and full of life as possible then it is highly recommended that you use a protein skimmer. How Does a Skimmer Work? A protein skimmer does its magic by utilizing small bubbles that form in the reaction chamber of the skimmer. When water sifts through the protein skimmer the waste products in the water naturally attach to those tiny bubbles. This attachment process occurs because of a chemical reaction known as absorption. Once attached, the bubbles move the waste up to the surface of the reaction chamber where the toxins and proteins are stripped from the water. These toxins and proteins are then filtered into the collection chamber where the waste will remain until the skimmer is manually cleaned out. The protein skimmers themselves actually produce millions of these tiny bubbles which helps replenish oxygen levels throughout the water in the aquarium. This too is very beneficial for any home aquarium as increased levels of oxygen help balance out the pH levels of the water. Where Do I Start? There are lots of different types of protein skimmers out there and they can be somewhat difficult to install and keep operational if you have never used one before.
