Siphiwe Baleka is an American-born professional swimmer, author-scholar, and Yale alum. In 2010, Baleka took an African Ancestry DNA test to find out that he was a descendant of the Balanta people living in modern-day Guinea-Bissau 🇬🇼. He has since produced historical materials on the origins of the Balanta people, and has teamed up with fellow Balanta descendant Sansau Tchimna, to provide Balanta language materials to the people of Guinea-Bissau. He now finds himself back in his ancestral homeland...telling the story of his ancestors to native Bissau-Guineans and discusses plans to unite and develop with the native Balanta population.
