ArchaeoDesigns's video: Magpies Nest Building: An Extended-Phenotype

@Magpies Nest Building: An Extended-Phenotype
I filmed two intrepid Eurasian Magpies (Pica pica) creating a nest upon and within a low growing apple tree. They constructed concentric twigs at the roof of the build, and seemed to carry on the vertical beams inside the tree. These corvids are highly intelligent and through memetic response seemed to understand building the nest right next to human habitation, whilst reckless at first thought, actually guarantees no other competing birds (or mammals in fact) who are more wary. This nest must be one of the most elaborate of nature's extended-phenotypes! Filmed in UK (South-East England)
