Arkya Chatterjee's video: Haldibari Alipurduar TEESTA TORSHA Express crosses immensely beautiful SAMPREETI SETU over Ganges

@Haldibari Alipurduar TEESTA TORSHA Express crosses immensely beautiful SAMPREETI SETU over Ganges
It was one fine morning that yours truly and Gaurav Sharma decided to explore the 130+ years old JUBILEE BRIDGE, and the new SAMPREETI SETU. And out of sheer madness and adrenaline rush, we decided to cross the entire bridge on foot, not once but twice. And icing on the cake was spotting the rumbling trains crossing the Holy Ganges. Powered by 16505 BWN WDM- 3A, the 13141 Sealdah (SDAH)- New Alipurduar (NOQ)/ Haldibari (HDB) TEESTA TORSHA Express takes a curve, gently climbs the immensely beautiful looking SAMPREETI SETU, crosses the same and accelerates past me towards Bandel Junction. Also watch Kolkata Gorakhpur PURVANCHAL Express cross the same bridge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbUaaDcKhqQ Teesta Torsha Express with a classic old WDM-2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhOnpo698Gc The train is named after two rivers, namely Teesta (Tista) and Torsha, and is by far the worst train to travel between South and North Bengal. It takes almost 18 hours to transverse the 700 odd kms at an average speed of 40 km/hr, and follows the slow Sealdah- Naihati- Bandel- Katwa- Azimganj- New Farakka- Malda Town- Barsoi- Kishanganj- New Jalpaiguri- Raninagar Jalpaiguri route. After that, the New Alipurduar portion follows the Dhupguri- New Cooch Behar- New Alipurduar route, whereas the Haldibari portion follows the Jalpaiguri- Haldibari route. River Teesta: River Teesta or Tista is said to be the lifeline of the Indian state of Sikkim, flowing for almost the entire length of the state and carving out verdant Himalayan temperate and tropical river valleys. The emerald-coloured river then forms the border between Sikkim and West Bengal before joining the Brahmaputra as a tributary in Bangladesh. The total length of the river is 309 km and it drains an area of 12,540 kmĀ². The river originates from Tso Lhamo in North Sikkim at an elevation of 5,330 m (17,487 ft) above sea level in the Himalaya. This lake lies to the east of the Donkia pass next to the Western base of Pauhunri and is formed by the melting of the Tista Khantse glacier. River Torsha: Torsa River (also spelt Torsha and also known as Machu and Amo Chhu) rises from the Chumbi Valley in Tibet, China, where it is known as Machu. It flows into Bhutan, where it is known as the Amo Chu. It has total length of 358 km, out of which 113 km in China and 145 km in Bhutan before flowing into the northern part of West Bengal in India. It flows past the important border towns of Phuntsholing (in Bhutan) and Jaigaon (on the Indian side of the border) and past the great tea estate of Dalsingpara and the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary. The beautiful landscape here is ideal for family picnics, and the wildlife sanctuary has tigers, rhinoceros and deer of many varieties. a tributary known as Buri Torsa meets Jaldhaka. Ghargharia river meets with Torsa in the Tufanganj subdivision, near Deocharai and Balarampur Torsa meets with Kaljani and it then flows into Bangladesh by the name of Kaljani and meets with Brahmaputra in Bangladesh. A distributary known as Buri Torsa meets Jaldhaka.
