Spiti looks similar to Ladakh all from the high altitude barren lands, blue rivers, Crystal clear Lakes and monasteries, and the difference is fewer travelers and tourists compared to Ladakh. And if I talk about the riding experience and the road conditions. There's a hell lot of difference compared to Ladakh. That's why the BRO termed it "the worlds most treacherous road". We decided to take the Shimla route, the reason: Firstly, Spiti Valley is a cold desert situated in Trans Himalayan region at an altitude of 11000+ Feet mostly and hence, our body will require a certain amount of acclimatization before we enter the Spiti Valley. Going via Shimla side will help us gradually increase the altitude and our body gets acclimatized properly, hence fewer chances of getting hit with Acute Mountain Sickness. Secondly, we get a chance to traverse the Hindustan – Tibet Highway which is one of the most adventurous roads in the world.
