Astar Artes Recordings's video: AMJ Promo

@AMJ Promo
AMJ is the trio of Andy Clarke, Mark Spence and John Hollis, working with a Collective of musicians, engineers, designers and artists. Less a band and more an organisation, the same source material is sent four ways exploring different sonic paths from a dub perspective. Andy, Mark and John first worked together in a group called Restriction -- a young reggae band that blazed a trail in the 1980s. Over the years they never lost touch with each other or the music and, three decades later, they have joined forces anew to create the AMJ Collective. Key to this music is sharing and collaboration. Many people, from Cuba to France and Wales to Burkina Faso, are participating in the project and the circle is ever increasing. Mark and Andy's parents left Jamaica for the UK in the 1960s and they were brought up in St Pauls, Bristol, against a backdrop of Caribbean culture and reggae music. Raised in rural Suffolk, John came to Bristol as a student, meeting Mark and Andy soon after arriving in the city. John went on to work with musicians from Africa and Latin America and it is to these continents, along with the Caribbean, that AMJ have looked for inspiration. Welcome to the world of the AMJ Collective. RSD mixes Dub Maestro Rob Smith is no stranger to innovative sonic adventures, a Bristol man who emerged from the reggae scene of the 80s as a guitarist and engineer, later developing his craft as a producer, DJ and re-mixer. Known for his work in Smith & Mighty and More Rockers, now piloting his own unique RSD sound, Rob tours constantly, performing in many countries across the globe. Space mixes Jonathan Lane worked with the BBC for ten years, plying his craft as an engineer with Radios 1, 2, 3 and 4 and network TV. Afterwards he set up his own recording business in Bristol specialising in acoustic and classical music working with many artists from Andy Sheppard to the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
