Ateneo de Davao University's video: The Way of the Cross - Station 8

@The Way of the Cross - Station 8
The Way of the Cross In the time of COVID-19 The Way of the Cross is a prayer journey that allows us to enter into Jesus’ sharing of self, suffering, death and resurrection. It is a way of encountering Jesus Christ who himself experienced the pain of being wounded, betrayed, judged and brought to an unjust death. Yet his way is also a journey of hope. The Way of the Cross is a story of overcoming evil and sin. Only through it do we encounter the resurrected Christ who brings new life. This difficult time of great anxiety and forced quarantine is also an opportune time for prayer and contemplation. The Way of the Cross is an invitation to continue our faith pilgrimage, even in the confines of our homes. It is a time to reflect on Jesus’ journey vis-a-vis our own. As one spiritual writer tells us, “the Stations of the Cross are a compass, a guide for the heart, a blueprint, and a source for sounding out our responses to what prevails and happens in our world today.” It is thus an opportune time of encountering Jesus and letting him encounter us, deep in our hearts. As we begin praying the Way of the Cross, we invite you to take time to pause, reflect and enter into a conversation with the Lord. There is no need to rush. One station a day, or three stations a day (morning, afternoon and evening) would be fine. It is not about finishing everything quickly but taking time to really “walk” the Way of the Cross with Jesus. To walk means to see what Jesus sees, to feel what Jesus feels, to bear the Cross as Jesus bears it—in short to be present to Jesus even up to the foot of the Cross. To stay with him as he drew his last breath. And ultimately to share the joy of His resurrection. As you begin, may you be strengthened by God’s grace. May you find the courage to overcome the paralysis of fear. May you be inspired to carry your own cross and lighten the cross of others. As you walk with the Lord, may you arrive at the fullness of life and joy—the gift of the resurrected Lord.
