Austin Schrock's video: Self-improvement basically just teaches one thing

Self-improvement actually teaches us only one thing overall---how to ask better questions. Our thoughts are mostly composed of asking and answering questions, many of which are subconscious. We form beliefs when we ask a question, answer it, and act on it. Whenever this situation comes up again, we immediately go to the action, because we have already answered the question. This may be problematic because although we may have arrived at the wrong answer in the past, we never question it. Self-improvement, however, requires us to reevaluate past answers to questions and to ask new questions. Over time, consciously asking new questions will bring new answers with which our brains will eventually be rewired to subconsciously answer. Because self-improvement is personalized, it is necessary for us to answer our own questions with what works for us, and not just feed off other peoples' answers that work for them. To learn to ask better questions, we can study the types of questions that people we respect are asking, and use those general patterns to guide our own specific questions.
