AutomotiveAffairs's video: 2021 Mazda6 Kuro Edition Review Happy New Year Automotive Affairs Special

@2021 Mazda6 Kuro Edition | Review | Happy New Year | Automotive Affairs Special!
The Mazda6 first showed up as a 2004 model, replacing the slow selling Mazda 626 model. While initially doing well, the Mazda6 is not nearly as popular as the Toyota Camry or the Honda Accord or even the Volkswagen Jetta. For the 2021 MY - Mazda has introduced the Kuro edition of the 6, which comes with snazzy black alloy wheels, and a turbocharged four-cylinder motor - let us explain in more detail. Styling: The 2021 Mazda6 is one of the prettiest looking cars in its class, and many think, that they are actually looking at a Jaguar rather than a Mazda when they glance at it. We score this at 8/10 points. Interior: The seats and the dash layout looks very good, and it is well equipped, but it isn't perfect. The seat back needs to contour forward a bit more at the top, and we at Automotive Affairs wish that the headrest moved fore and aft, not just up and down. Rear seat legroom is good, but not great - this is for kids, not adults. We score it 6/10 here. Safety: The Mazda6 is very safe - easily a 8/10 score. Powertrain: It has a turbocharged 2.5L I4 motor, that produces 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque - but only when using 93 octane fuel. Use 87 octane, and power is down to 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to just the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox - which is not the quickest gearbox in its class - but we're just glad it doesn't have a CVT. So, in this category, we give it a 7/10 score. Performance: Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h ( 0 to 62 MPH ) takes 6.5 seconds, and it'll top out at 240 km/h ( 149 MPH ) - so it is plenty fast! It gets a 6/10 score here. Driving Dynamics: Given this is a front-wheel drive, mid-size family sedan, performance and handling is not its main thing, but it does a very good job at being a comfortable daily driver that is peppy - that turbo spools up nicely and slingshoots you up the road! Score, 6/10 here. Fuel Economy: In our fuel economy tests, which covers 180 km on the highway, and 120 km in city driving, we averaged 10.1 L/100 km. Not bad, but could be better! 6/10. Pricing: The 2021 Mazda6 Kuro edition is yours from $40,000 (including freight & PDE). Given it is not wearing a premium badge, it'll have a tough time winning over buyers from BMW, Audi, Lexus, or Acura; but the Mazda6 is not for badge snobs, and is a good car for the money! Still, we rate it a 5/10 here. Verdict: The Mazda6 has been good for a very long time, and the Kuro edition is the best one yet. With a score of 52/80 - we think it did rather well!
