A special panel discussion Moderated by Naresh Fernandes Author and Editor of Scroll.in To celebrate the recent launch of two striking new books on Mumbai : Bombay Imagined by Principal Architect RMA Architects and Author, Robert Stephens The Opium of Time by Filmmaker, Photographer and Author Sunhil Sippy Robert Stephens, an architect, recreated an unrealized Bombay, from ideas dating as far back as the 1600s that never saw the light of the day. Sunhil Sippy, a filmmaker, captured life on the streets of Mumbai for a decade, uncovering a hidden city. Both, explorers in their own right, were inspired to look past their first impressions and chronicle the city in two beautiful books. During the event, each will reveal photographs from their books and introduced us to the inspirations behind their ideas. The two imaginators, both foreigners to the city, set about to try and define the city. But how do you define Bombay? By the spray of tony art deco on Marine Drive or the tumbledown charm of Irani cafes? By scruffy taxis lining a diamond district, or its never say die spirit? Or do you define it as a stolen nugget – a bindass Bombay now rarely seen in maximum Mumbai?
