Today Xiaomi showed the new version of its custom user interface - MIUI 9. MIUI 9 has been in the making for about a year now and now it is finally official. It is based on Android Nougat 7.0 and comes with three key features - Image search, Smart assistant, and Smart app launcher. A majority of the new features are system optimizations which should result in a smoother experience, though there are also some visual changes. Lets run through some of the key ones. The image search is something completely new for Xiaomi devices. You can search the images by keywords of what is in the picture. Words like “selfie”, “face” and “blue” will bring photos containing what you are searching for. The next feature is called Smart app launcher. It launches an app, based on screen contents. It can open Maps if you are talking about going somewhere or help you read more about an artist if you are reading an article on him. The third major improvement of MIUI 9 is the Smart assistant. It can find anything from photos to text. We would like to compare it with Google Assistant, but this will happen once the ROM rolls out globally.
