After receiving the Padma Shri award by the Government of India on the basis of excellent work in Tibetan medicine, Dr. Yehye Dhonden, a 94-year-old Buddhist monk who remained a personal physician of religious leader Dalai Lama, also thanked the Center. Tibetan medicines are produced in India, hence it is very similar to Indian Ayurveda. Tibetan medicines were brought from Buddhism through India in Tibet in the 7th century. Government of India has given special recognition to Tibetan medicines since the beginning.
