A glance into the world of solo flute repertoire; innovative artists, composers and the development of styles and techniques over the last century. Emma Minchin (nee Griffiths) is a professional flautist, piccolo player and teacher. Born in England in 1982, Emma developed a taste for travel performing as Concerto soloist in America as Cheshire Young Musician of the Year 2000. Her career began in London on graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a Master of Music and Bachelor of Music with Honours 2005/2004. Her professors included the innovative flautist and composer Ian Clarke. In Europe Emma performed in Masterclasses with Dave Heath, Michael Cox and Sir James Galway. She won numerous festivals including; North London Chamber Music Prize 2001; Sutton Music Festival Concerto Prize 2002; Stratford-Upon-Avon International Flute Festival Scholarship 2005; and Principal flute of the European Academies Symphony Orchestra performing in the Musikverein Vienna, Sibelius Hall Latte and Barbican Centre London with the legendary Sir Colin Davis. Education has also played a key role in Emma's career. In 2006 Emma taught the flute in workshops ran by the London Symphony Orchestra Discovery and her quintet led workshops at the Wigmore Hall. In 2007 Emma moved to New Zealand freelancing with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, touring with the Asia Orchestra Festival in Japan before moving to Dubai in 2012. Emma now performs with the National Symphony Orchestra of the United Arab Emirates and enjoys chamber music and teaching in Dubai.
