BOLDtalks's video: The Urgent versus the Important - Paul Godfrey - BOLDtalks 2014

@The Urgent versus the Important - Paul Godfrey - BOLDtalks 2014
In his keynote opening remarks, Paul Godfrey argues that one of the greatest barriers to 'quantum leap' progress is the clash between the urgent and the important. We spend our lives firefighting apparently vital trivia, never getting the chance to address the actions that would truly make a major difference. While we see this most clearly in our business lives - 'no-one ever got rich by dealing with 500 e-mails a day' - it's true for every area of human enterprise. Paul argues that the breakthroughs we learn about today were all the products of taking a step back and looking at the wider picture - understanding what really matters, and acting accordingly. Editorial Director for CPI Media Group, Paul is one of the region's best-known editors and commentators on business, current affairs and finance. For more than 25 years, he's been active as a journalist and publisher and is the author of benchmark publications such as 'The Manager's Handbook' and 'Risk management in the public sector: five protocols for protecting people and property'. Paul has held a number of corporate directorships, including being Head of Editorial Services for Reed Elsevier PLC and Publishing Director of the leading design entity Communique 360. With a Sloan Management Diploma from London Business School, Paul was also a committee member for the Cadbury Report, examining governance issues in the public sector.
