Alexandra Lazar – Final Press Conference Museo de Deportes in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico was the site of today’s Universal Promotions “Noche de Campeones DirecTV” fight card to take place during the 29th Annual WBO Convention on Tuesday, October 18th 2016. Universal Promotions President Javier Bustillo began the press conference by introducing the DirecTV representative. She advised that they are looking forward to a great night of action and thanked Bustillo for the continued collaboration. Bustillo then introduced WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel. Francisco spoke about the upcoming WBO Convention and how it will be dedicated to former Champions. Francisco advised that Ivan Calderon will be the official spokesperson. Francisco also advised that Miguel Cotto will also be taking part in the convention and dignitaries will be present from all over the World. Bustillo the introduced undercard fighters Jean Carlos Torres, Felix Caraballo, Marcos Osorio, and Derrieck Cuevas. All four took brief turns at the podium to give their thanks for the opportunity and advising they were ready for October 18th. Bustillo then introduced the trainer for Alexandra Lazar. The trainer had to be translated and thanked everyone for the invitation. He continued that he was happy, excited, and has studied Puerto Rican Boxing. He commented that they will try and live up to the level of Puerto Rican boxing. Bustillo then introduced Jordan Maldonado (Trainer to Amanda Serrano). Maldonado was thankful for the Amanda’s opportunity to fight for a 5th World title in 4 different weight divisions. Maldonado thanked Valcarcel and gave credit to Lazar. Maldonado advised that it is difficult to find opponents for Amanda but where Lazar comes from (Budapest, Hungary), they are full of heart. Maldonado continued that on the 18th we will see why nobody wants to fight Amanda. Maldonado then thanked Bustillo and DirecTV and stated, “Even though the fight won’t last long, it will be a great fight. It will go two rounds!” Lazar was next up to the podium and she was very nervous. She was at the podium with the translator and the only words she spoke into the microphone were “Thanks for the invitation.” Through the translator, Lazar also stated I will try and give a good fight and I will talk after the fight. Bustillo then introduced Amanda Serrano but prior stated that Amanda is inspiring girls all over Puerto Rico and that this is his first event with a female boxer but now has several requests for future events. Amanda approached the podium and said she was nervous. Before Amanda could continue, Maldonado joined her side. Amanda spoke in Spanish to everyone and thanked the WBO and Universal Promotions for the opportunity to fight for her 5th World title. Amanda continued that she is very happy and wants to tie her Idol Miguel Cotto in winning her 4th Weight class title. Maldonado interjected, as Amanda had a little problem saying this because of nerves by “This means she wants to tie her Idol Miguel Cotto.” The crowd laughed. Amanda then thanked everyone and said, “This title is mine.” Maldonado then stated, “Remember I said 2 rounds.” Serrano vs Lazar for the 122 WBO Title is the C0-Main Event of the evening. Bustillo then introduced Miguel Cotto Promotions Representative Hector Soto and stated that he has had a very good relationship and great events with Miguel Cotto Promotions. Miguel Cotto Promotions represent Jose “Wonderboy” Lopez. Soto took the podium and thanked Bustillo, Valcarcel, DirecTV, and Edgardo “Sasso” Lopez. Soto mentioned that when this fight was discussed, he asked Bustillo if “Sasso” was sure he wanted it because it is a tough fight.
