Today we are exploring the Animal Flower Cave is one of the oldest Tourist Attractions in Barbados, The Animal Flower Cave is a natural sea cave which is situated under the magnificent cliff tops in the north of the Island the parish of St. Lucy. It was discovered by its seaward entrance in 1750 by a Welsh naturalist and author, the Reverend Griffith Hughes. The Animal Flower Cave consists of huge 'windows' out into the ocean and deep rock pools in which you can swim. There is a large children's play park as well as stalls and stores selling local jeweller, art and crafts. The cliffs surrounding the Cave offer spectacular views of the northern coast of Barbados where huge Atlantic waves crash against the cliffs. If you would like to visit this wondrous attraction we would recommend hiring a car to visit the Animal Flower Cave at your leisure. The Animal Flower Cave is famously known around the world with the cave being featured in singer Billy Ocean's music videos and in the soap opera "Bold and Beautiful". No Bookings are required for guided tours, there are no set times so just come on up and enjoy the experience. And Yes, swimming Inside the last cave chamber is possible there is a natural rock pool that is around 8ft deep at the lowest point. Absolutely perfect and tranquil. But Swimming is sometimes not possible on certain days depending on the height and strength of the waves, this is generally during the winter months. These are coral steps which lead down through an opening in the roof into the cave, were built in 1912. Inside the cave, there still are found some sea anemones which are locally called animal flowers from whence the cave obtained its name. These are seasonal and at some times of the year, there will not be many to see HOWEVER the cave itself is still worth visiting! Yes, there are Humpback Whales in Barbados at certain times of the year. The cliff tops at the Animal Flower Cave is one of the best places to see them. The Restaurant at the Animal Flower Cave offers a wide selection of Barbadian delicacies including the black belly sheep….
