Ustad Bhai Ghulam Muhammed Chand the singer of this superb poetic work lives in Lahore, Pakistan.His lineage can be traced back to Bhai Mardana ji who accompanied Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh master and founder of sikhism, and to the rababis who accompanied Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji the 9th and 10th sikh Masters. Before partition, his forefathers travelled to different gurdwaras across Joint Punjab from Delhi to Peshawar performing and reciting shabad kirtan with an innate knowledge of gurbani and a distinctively authentic musical style sung within the designated raags with melodic instrumentation. Bhai Chand's recitation of kirtan and his depth of understanding of gurbani and shabad kirtan has not waned, even though for the last 61 years he has been separated him from the wider Sikh community. Bhai Chand ji has travelled to India several times, where he was warmly received and awarde. he was specially hosted by the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
