Bambus's video: Shopper kicked out of mall for dressing as Santa

VIENNA, W. Va. - Charles Landers Sr., 52, has been shopping at Vienna's Grand Central Mall since he was a teenager but now he says he plans to never shop there again. On Friday, December 16, Landers dressed as Santa along with his wife and 19-month old grandson and drove an hour from their home in Middleport, Ohio to Vienna to finish up their holiday shopping. Once they were inside the mall, he says a security guard asked them to change their clothes or leave the store because the mall already had a contract Santa on site. Landers did not have a change of clothes and did not want to buy a change of clothes so he decided to leave. He said he was humiliated for having driven that far to shop just to be asked to leave. "The Christmas spirit is gone. We love the Christmas spirit; we're trying to teach our little grandbaby, he's 19 months old; we're trying to teach him how to love Christmas and the holidays and dressing up. He loves it and like I said I just want people that was staring at us and people who knew that we were asked to leave to know it wasn't because of anything we'd done it was just because of the way we were dressed," Landers said. After the incident, Landers says he posted his frustration to the mall's Facebook page. It took the mall 3 days to respond to the incident. "The mall manager told me that he was sorry for what happened and that it's not their policy and that we could have stayed in there in our outfits and it should not have happened," Landers said. The mall's management issued this statement, ""We are proud to honor the tradition of the holidays and share the spirit that this time of year brings to so many. We apologize for the miscommunication that made Mr. Landers and his family feel unwelcome as this was never our intent.” Landers says he will not wear his Santa costume in public ever again.
